Journ

Developed while at Richard Clarkson Studio in collaboration with Monder New York, Journ embodies an extensive brand transformation through a focal furniture piece.

While the studio had historically gained notoriety from developing experimental lighting and product pieces, a core element was required to elevate brand perceptions and guide future development channels. The outcome, Journ, represents the epitome of modern comfort through an elemental, minimalist style. Launching with two leather colorways (Nude and Cognac) the chair and ottoman set heralds a new line of furniture featuring thematically consistent aesthetics, materials, and production techniques. The refined steel frame provides functional structure to shape the leather sling, allowing Journ to cradle the body in a relaxed, ergonomically embracing posture.

After extensive exploration into ergonomics, structure, materiality, and context, the studio arrived at a form that is at once timeless, supportive, and deceptively comfortable. The sleek frame conveys the look of a stiletto; the leather, the embrace of a familiar slipper.

Journ’s vegetable tanned leather ages and patinas beautifully while conforming to the anatomy of its owner - a purposeful element to heighten visceral user interaction and ensure sustained longevity. The sling can also be changed if required, a series of studs fixes the leather in place and can be removed by hand.

Inspired by the act of writing, Journ aspires to be the perfect place to reflect, to process, and to relax.
